Achieve Healthy 4C Hair: Essential Wash Day Routine and Must-Have Products Recommended for you.

Achieve Healthy 4C Hair: Essential Wash Day Routine and Must-Have Products Recommended for you.

There’s a myth that Black girls with 4C hair have stunted hair growth. Let me tell you, that’s not true. Our hair has the thickest texture, which is why it grows in a beautiful afro shape and shrinks easily due to water or temperature, making it seem like we have short hair. All that’s needed is proper love and care for your 4C hair.

I know you’ve heard this before, but let me share a little secret: I am on a hair growth journey myself. I don’t have the longest hair, but I’ve implemented some great strategies to ensure HEALTHY HAIR. Yes, you heard that right: HEALTHY > LENGTH.

Just like how people advocate for skincare, which is essentially about having healthy skin, the same energy should be directed to your 4C hair. We should adopt hair strengthening, moisturizing, and cleaning strategies to ensure healthy hair, free of breakage and dryness, leading naturally to longer hair.

When I was in secondary school, there was a myth that to grow your hair longer quickly, you shouldn't wash it regularly. Instead, you should wash it after you’ve done braids about five times because regular washing would shrink it and stop it from growing.

Please discard that mentality. Doing that only leaves your scalp extremely chapped, and you know that’s where your hair grows from. It also leads to hair breakage, dryness, and worst of all, it’ll stink like crazy. I advise washing your hair at least once a month, or once every two months if you don’t have the money or time to make new braids.

Now, let's get to the proper way to wash your hair and some product recommendations.

Step 1: Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is not a compulsory step, but it’s a big plus for a successful healthy hair journey. You’ve probably heard about the numerous benefits of aloe vera, so I’ll just share some highlights:

- It strengthens the hair, as it’s rich in vitamins A, B12, C, and E, which are great for hair follicles.
- It protects the hair from excess heat and greasing.
- It offers protection from UV radiation from the sun.
- It improves already damaged hair.
- It serves as a hair moisturizer.
- It reduces scalp itchiness and irritation.

Pure aloe vera can be hard to find, so I have the perfect product for you. The below recommended refined aloe vera products have all the benefits listed above.

You can get access to the these aloe vera products on Amazon, through these links.

Step 2: Application and Rinsing

After applying aloe vera to your sectioned hair (4 or 6 sections), cover your hair with a bonnet or shower cap to let the nutrients marinate for 20 minutes. This step ensures that the nutrients are absorbed properly. Rinse it out in sections.

Long lasting as well as comfortable satin bonnets can be assessed through the Amazon links below:

Step 3: Shampoo

Shampooing is a very important step. It’s like soap for your hair, washing off grease, heat, and smell. Just like the aloe vera, I’ve got the perfect shampoo for you that lathers well and smells wonderful.

Access to good lathering and cleansing shampoo products with great scents products can be found on Amazon using these links:

Pro tip: Shampoo twice to ensure extra cleanliness. Then, condition your hair.

Step 4: Conditioning

Shampoo washes off all the dirt and oils, but your hair needs a bit of moisture to avoid dryness and breakage. The conditioner brings back clean moisture, making the hair smooth, shiny, and healthy. Think of it like applying moisturizer to your face after washing it.

The conditioner I recommend detangles hair to avoid breakage and has a nice scent. Apply it in sections and cover your hair with a bonnet or shower cap to allow it to marinate for the recommended time.

The conditioners can be accessed for purchase on Amazon through the below links:

Step 5: Deep Conditioning

This step keeps your hair hydrated and helps with effective detangling and strengthening to avoid breakage. (Add this product from Anazon to your 4c wash day routine, through this link.

You may ask: "What then is the difference between a conditioner and deep conditioner?

That I shall explain in a jiffy.

Difference between Conditioner and Deep Conditioner:
- Conditioner: Brings moisture and shine, and a good one helps detangle.
- Deep Conditioner: Provides deeper treatment, ensuring thorough detangling and stopping breakage.

I’ve got the right deep conditioners for you listed in the links below, directing you to the exact product on Amazon.
